JKDFP Issues & Priorities
Foundation & Early Vision
The Jammu & Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) was established in 1998 by Shabir Ahmad Shah with a vision rooted in peaceful political struggle and democratic rights. During this period, the Party built its initial organizational structure, set up village and district committees, and began advocating dialogue-based solutions to the Kashmir issue.
Growth, Advocacy & Human Rights Focus
JKDFP expanded its outreach through youth programs, social welfare activities, and human rights awareness campaigns. The Party actively encouraged India–Pakistan–Kashmir dialogue and participated in platforms highlighting the human rights situation in the region. Despite detentions and political pressure on leadership, the Party remained committed to peaceful activism.
Resilience During Political Challenges
This phase marked a period of intensified political pressure and restrictions. Even with repeated detentions of founder Shabir Ahmad Shah, JKDFP continued functioning through senior members and provincial units. The Party emphasized peace, unity, community welfare, and international engagement to maintain awareness about the region’s concerns.
Reorganization & Future Vision
JKDFP strengthened internal restructuring, enhanced communication with the diaspora, and renewed its commitment to human rights, social welfare, and peaceful dialogue. With Mehmood Ahmed Saghar serving as the Acting Chairman, the Party continues to work toward justice, dignity, and a peaceful resolution for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
